As someone who has tried all of the Celebrity Diets, and failed, mainly due to the fact that I find these programs too restrictive for my day-to-day life, I was sceptical when I picked up Debbie Rocker's Training for Life. "Here we go," I thought to myself, "Another book with unrealistic and unsustainable training and diet regimes."

However, I have to say, I have been pleasantly surprised by the book, which has motivated me to follow the Training for Life program.

Debbie Rocker recognizes that in order to make a meaningful and lasting change to our destructive behaviours regarding exercise and diet, it is neccessary to recondition how we think. We need to eliminate the negative thoughts which creep in to our minds, and are inevitably the reason why we have given up on so many other diet/exercise programs, or, indeed, lost the weight we hoped to, only to watch the pounds pile back on again, resulting in yo-yo dieting, which is demotivating and depressing.

The Training For Life Programme consists of an initial fourteen day training plan, involving walking modules varying from 60-96 minutes, followed by Strengthening, Stretching and Toning exercises, and a 14-day meal plan. This plan is suited to people of all ages and fitness levels, as you are asked to grade your efforts on a scale of 1-10 (Your Effort Scale), 1 being a gentle stroll and 10 being flat-out effort (which would only be sustainable for a very short period of time), and by using this scale, you can be sure that you are working to your optimal level at all times.

Debbie provides coaching and inner affirmations throughout the program to reinforce the physical exercise through changing your thought process, and eliminating the resistence which we put in front of ourselves.

This book has motivated me to get up and walk, and treat my body as it deserves to be treated, and not in the self-destructive manner which I have become accustomed to.

Armchair Interviews says: If you want to treat your body better and look at eating/dieting differently, this might be the book for you.
