With its catchy title and flirty front cover design, Tyeese Gaines Reid's The Get A Life Campaign promises to help the shell-shocked "busy woman who wants it all" get her life back. The book is packed full of tips on relaxation and wellness, saving money, time management and more for overworked professionals, harried students, and weary moms.
Get A Life starts out strong--even creates excitement--with its first chapter entitled, Help! I'm in a Rut!, but it quickly loses momentum. For any woman who has read more than one self-help book or women's magazine, or even occasionally watched Oprah--Reid offers nothing new.
The girlfriend-to-girlfriend writing style makes for an easy read, but the topics, peppered with personal anecdotes, feel more like a listing of recycled ideas than an exploration of creative, new concepts. The author fails to maintain the powerful connection with the reader that she had so easily garnered at the beginning of her book.
