Subtitled: All you need to know to become a successful author

"To sell 5,000 copies, your potential market should be at least 500,000."

When this book says it's "everything"--they aren't kidding. Sometimes I flip through non-fiction book to see what tidbits jump out. Every page has a pull-out Essential, E-Fact, E-Alert or E-Question--many I highlighted to use in our monthly ezine on writing and books.

I might be wrong--but if it isn't in this second edition, you don't need it. There are two kinds of writers: Those who want to write and want to be published someday but if that doesn't happen, they still will write (because it is their life). The second group wants recognition, fame and future a bestseller would bring.

The book introduces all the opportunities to see our words in print (and maybe even get paid). A sampling of the tips and tricks include:

-- finding a market
-- different publishing markets
-- contracts
-- writing submissions that will be taken seriously
-- and much, much more.

After the solitary life of a writer, you have to become proactive and submit book proposals and query letters, maybe find an agent or decide to self-publish. The book proposal and submission protocol sections--and the importance of updating and revising them, are important as is reading the contract section.

A lot of writers' biggest concern is what to do AFTER their book is published. Finding a market and building your platform (what is your relationship with the intended market) are covered in two chapters.

"Creating Buzz," is about learning how to build and sustain "buzz"--who does what. An E-Alert is about what support to expect from your publisher. For example, they may send out a press release and review copy to major media--but that might be it, unless your book is expected to be BIG.

I loved this book and will tell all my writing friends. This might be the best $14.95 you have spend for yourself or as a gift--a resource you'll open often.
