England 1880. Rebeccah Randolph had been raised with wealth. She stands in her grandmother's drawing room to inform the older woman she plans to wed the man of her dreams, not the man her grandmother has chosen for her. Before the meeting is over, Rebeccah finds out her mother left instructions before she died for Rebeccah to follow her older sister Lydia to America to meet their father. Rebecca must postpone her wedding to Edward.

Fast forward to Rebeccah's arrival in New Mexico, and an eventful meeting with Colonel Sayer MacLaren. Lydia is a nurse and helping her father in his medical practice, while Rebecca lives on a ranch and teaches children. Rebecca learns a lot, from riding a horse to shooting a gun, but most of all she learns about family and love.

Events aren't always as we would imagine them. Robbery by Indians, a visit from England, misplaced trust, landowners, horse breeders, and soldiers. There's one soldier in particular, "She cast him a quick glance amazed at the way her stomach did a little jump each time she looked at him. "There's no need for such formality, colonel. You may call me by my name."

This author, known for her historical romances set in the West, released The Price of Pride and Trust and Treason in 2006. Two older books are If It Takes Forever and Forever and Always in the same genre. If you love this kind of read, check all her books out.

Armchair Interviews says: If you want to read a romance story with depth, this is the one for you.
