We all know her…and fear her. She is the woman who is always tan and has a flat stomach. (Insert scary music.)
In The Woman Who is Always Tan and Has a Flat Stomach…and Other Annoying People, Lauren Allison and Lisa Perry take on the perfect people. No one is safe. From the Perfect Brownie Leader who uses her GPS to email photos from the campouts, to the Craft Mom who sends you an exquisitely handmade thank-you note for the baby gift you sent to her fourth child–as well as everyone in between.
Face it. If you are a mom, or even just a woman, there is someone who makes you feel inadequate. Someone who does the thing you aspire to, but does it better. Or someone who does something you never wanted to do, but convinces you that you should be doing it. If you think you’re healthy because you make your children eat their green beans, SHE has children that will eat only broccoli and turn away from chicken nuggets in disgust.
And like I said, no one is safe. I saw myself in a few of the caricatures and most of my friends as well. But what is wonderful about this book, is that the authors take the annoying people to such extremes that it is just hilarious and not a bit catty. Frankly, I don’t know how they did it. And another thing this book does is release you from the guilt you’ve probably been carrying too long for not having a scrapbook dedicated to your child’s first happy meal…and many other things.
I highly recommend this book and will be passing it around freely. Like the authors say, this is “The perfect book for women and moms who are tired of perfect women and moms!”
