Michael Buckley’s The Sisters Grimm series is wickedly fun and is definitely a series to keep on the shelf for years to come. Buckley’s unique and quirky series continues to play off the fairy tales by the Grimm Brothers. It’s a quick and exciting read that will appeal to younger and older children. Actually, many adults will enjoy the series–and the sixth book, Tales From the Hood is no exception.
It can never be said that Ferryport Landing withholds justice. Everyone can and does get their day in court. That includes the Big Bad Wolf. Sabrina and Daphne’s friend Mr. Canis is put on trial for past crimes. After all, he is the Big Bad Wolf. But Mayor Heart is determined to make sure the trial outcome is just the way he wants it: a guilty verdict.
It’s up to Sabrina and Daphne to find the proof needed to free Mr. Canis, and the evidence unearthed will reveal the true story of Red Riding Hood. But even with proof, it will be a fight to win in court. Not only is Mayor Heart trying to fix things, but he and Sheriff Nottingham interfere with the Sherwood Associates (Robin Hood and Little John) and try to prevent them in helping their client.
The back story of Sabrina and Daphne’s parents is addressed. They are still victims of the sleeping spell and Goldilocks must be located so she can wake them up. It’s a story fraught with excitement and danger. New characters arrive, old characters leave and life goes on as the Grimm sisters begin growing up. Oh, and our beloved Puck is making some changes you won’t want to miss. The ending is a delicious cliffhanger and the good thing is fans won’t have to wait long for the seventh book. It will be out in early 2009.
Armchair Interviews says: A series of fairy tales and fantasy that should be read from the very first book. It’s a series that will become a classic.
