Ben Brice is barely surviving as a drunk in the New Mexico wilderness–and barely surviving is all the tortured man feels that he deserves. He’s lost any relationships with his beloved wife and son because he can’t rid himself of the memories of Viet Nam. His only connection with the outside world is his ten-year-old granddaughter, Gracie.
Following a soccer game, the talented Gracie is kidnapped. Her father, Ben’s internet geek son, turned “really rich man,” was supposed to be watching her but was “doing” a business deal on the phone instead.
Ben is notified of Gracie’s disappearance and sobers up enough to go to his family. As clues unfold, Ben realizes that Gracie’s kidnapping is more than a random event. He sidesteps the FBI and his inner Rambo emerges as he begins his own investigation of Gracie’s disappearance. It’s a race against time while father and son try to save Gracie and stop an evil plot–and maybe heal a family who has numerous closely held secrets.
Gimenez writes a fast-paced thriller that will keep the reader turning the pages. His narrative flows easily and the characters are developed enough that you care for the good guys and root for the demise of the bad guys.
While I always tend to think thrillers are ‘over the top’ and the reader must be willing to suspend belief, Gimenez makes me a believer. This could really happen.
Armchair Interviews says: Action-packed novel you won’t want to put down.
