Detective Sergeant Ingrid Dean has worked in the Michigan State Police for almost twenty years. She has compiled 60 inspiring and most interesting stories submitted by police officers nationwide.
The contributors are listed, however the stories are anonymous–so it could be any police officer we know. People in law enforcement also appreciate their privacy, and because some of the stories talk about messages from God, intuition and dreams that gave the officers messages to help them solve cases, no names were used.
Dean has divided her collection of short stories into:
Angels and Apparitions
Dreams and Intuition
Healing with Humor
Lessons of the Heart
Symbols, Signs and Synchronicity
Unexplainable Phenomenon
For many of us, we don’t like to see a police car or state trooper pull us over for a traffic problem–but we all do want an officer “right now” if we have trouble on the road. If you have always appreciated the work of law enforcement, you will really learn from these stories about the officer’s personal thoughts, actions, deeds–and the risks they take everyday.
Dean’s collection introduces us to the human side of law enforcement. They tell us about things that happen on the job that officers don’t usually even talk about. Many stories are about “guardian angels” that have saved lives–or even divine intervention. Not how we usually think about cops and troopers.
One story an officer gets a message in a dream to review his notes, and thus he solves a crime.
These are not tough cops but humanitarian stories about officers who sit with victims, tell bad new to family members, and hold a person’s hand as they die.
You’ll chuckle at some of the stories and feel tears well up with others. I really enjoyed them, and felt many were especially meaningful. I have friends who had been police officers and have heard these kinds of stories before–just their version.

Armchair Interviews says: You’ll never look at law enforcement officers the same again after reading their stories.
