What a nice little story that spilled out from a father at his daughter's bedtime.
The story brings together Christina and Sarah. Sarah died of the flu epidemic in 1918. Sarah and her family had lived in the house Christina and her family just moved to--and now Sarah is haunting the house. Why is she haunting this house?
The author melds a present-day porcelain doll and one that Sarah coveted--but didn't receive because she died on Christmas Eve.
The story is based around Christmas because Sarah died then, but it is also a story of the challenges of children moving and finding new friends--and about giving to others.
The mystery of the ghost sent Chris and her new friend Kate to investigate life almost 90 years ago, and they learn about the 1918 family through a photo album, old newspapers, visiting the historical museum and talking to aging relatives.
A lovely story that could be read by middle readers or by a parent over several nights--with lots of discussion areas for adult and child.
Armchair Interviews says: Well-written by a good storytelling father.
