Being a security consultant sounds glamorous, but in this third book of the To Catch A Thief romantic suspense series, Desireé Jacobs is living a nightmare that leads her to be disenchanted with her job and its repercussions for herself and those around her. She is shot at, blown up, kidnapped, and stalked by a mysterious maniac. Gangs, drugs and missing artifacts, as well as dealings with high-level Mexican officials, impart a surreal sense to the tasks that face her. And all she really wants to do is get married to her gorgeous fiancée, FBI Agent Tony Lucano.
A developing relationship with her future mother-in-law is put to the test, not to mention Desireé’s own issues with her father’s untimely death. Walking down the aisle without him by her side is only a small part of a larger sense of loss, so intense that it leaves her spiritually barren. Her prayer life is suffering as she tries to work out everything on her own. Re-establishing her connection with God becomes a pursuit as strong within her, as her efforts to resolve who is at the back of a smear campaign that threatens to bring her business down.
Tony is also dealing with an identity crisis of sorts, resulting from an injury and the possibility that he won’t be allowed to go back to the FBI. He must work through his own issue of who he is, ultimately, if he doesn’t carry a badge…and how he will support a wife in this unseen future.
God’s presence, as well as that of family and friends, contribute to the restoration of both Desireé and Tony, physically, mentally and ultimately, spiritually. A great read with a message that God’s grace is always sufficient, no matter our circumstances.
Armchair Interviews agrees.
