Elizabeth Parker’s New Year’s resolutions include eating healthier and getting away from her cheating boyfriend, so when her Great Aunt Winnie sends her an invitation to attend her new inn’s murder mystery weekend for the holiday, she greatly accepts the chance for some time to herself. Unfortunately, when Elizabeth arrives, she discovers she is not the only one her aunt enlisted to help her. Peter McGowan is Elizabeth’s childhood nemesis, and even after 15 years, she still holds a grudge for how he treated her. But she is determined to enjoy herself and do what she can to help her aunt make it a great weekend.

Someone has other plans however that involve giving the murder mystery act a real victim.

Elizabeth, Peter and Aunt Winnie do all they can to clear the inn’s name after one of the guests, a wealthy businessman that had few friends in the small town, is shot during the evening’s festivities. But when more bodies start turning up, Elizabeth realizes she may be in deeper than even she can handle.

Murder At Longbourn is a well-written, suspenseful, fun novel that leads you through twists and turns and will leave the reader in shock. A bit of romance and Jane Austen references also help along this story.

Tracy Kiely has definitely succeeded with this first novel, and I hope to see more of her work in the future.

Armchair Interviews agrees.
