Joanne Helm's book urges us to reflect upon our daily life and find ways to simplify. Not only to cut out the excess "stuff" with a trip to donate to a place like Goodwill, but to examine our personal habits as well.
She states, "When I think of a simple life, I think of a life that is less complicated, roomier, filled with the meaningful rather than the urgent. I think of a life centered around people rather than things. I think of a life focused rather than scattered, grounded and stable rather than pulled in too many different directions at once. I think of knowing what God wants me to do--being sure of it--and doing it."
Peppered with scriptures to encourage, Helm also uses them to guide the reader in the search for simplicity. Order in the home, Job 24:2; rules for Christian households, Colossians 3; a simple Sabbath: Matthew 11.
Joanne Helm's bottom line approach urges the reader to "...cut back...simplify...create space...walk into God's wide-open space...It's a challenge not to take on new commitment, to refuse to feel guilty...but to sit back and rest and wait for God to fill that day as He chooses is a gift beyond measure."
Take to heart this author's words and slow down. Life's too short.
