When rumors start about Pearl and Hallie, two close friends, they realize it’s time to leave Whiskey Bend. However, they aren’t leaving without their friend, Mary. Mary’s stepbrother has decided she belongs to him, whether she likes it or not. When the three ladies make a run for it, they start on a journey that none of them could have foreseen.
When Eli Morgan receives a telegram from his Uncle Hank to return home, he has no idea what’s in store for him. His younger brother has been murdered. His father has just passed away. His mother is a psychotic shrew. To top it all off, his brother believes he is the long-dead Abraham Lincoln. Then he stumbles across three ladies lost in a storm.
Could things get any crazier?
Dorothy Garlock can write books for me anytime! I was sucked in from the prologue and couldn’t put the book down. Once you set out on the journey to leave Whiskey Bend with these plucky women, there’s no turning back. It stops being a book you’re reading and becomes an adventure that you’re taking. Dorothy Garlock has a way of pulling you right into the story so that you just want to stay there through the end, no matter what comes your way. You’re no longer a housewife or a corporate head, you are now a lone woman on the frontier, having to face dangers you’ve never imagined.
The characters in this book are what amazed me most. They’re so unusual that they’re realistic. You even keep glancing out the window looking to see if the bad guys are following you as well. I think my favorite character was the doctor in Whiskey Bend. He was so hilarious that I couldn’t help but laugh out loud.
Being a fan of Dorothy Garlock, I have to say that her stories just keep getting better and better. She has also written books under the names Dorothy Phillips, Dorothy Glenn, and Johanna Phillips.
Armchair Interviews says: Another good offering from Garlock.
