The author of the Blossom Street series provides a story about herself in Knit Together. Based on the scripture that God knows us before He knits us in the womb, the title speaks to the connections of people to the Creator, to one another and to their individual purposes on earth. In audiobook format with a pleasing narration provided by Sonja Lanzener, the story serves well as an affirmation exercise.
Macomber describes her hardships as a dyslexic child, mocked into adolescence and told to throw away her writing in adulthood. She saw no self talents except the desire to write, which she kept hidden. Married, with four young children, Debbie discovered her dyslexia had been passed on to them, at the time a favorite cousin died from cancer. She seemed to be on the discard pile of life. Debbie and her children struggled while husband Wayne waited in far-off Alaska for work on the pipeline. He asked her to find a job rather than write, but because this proceeded to kill her spirit, he relented.
After years of rejections, her first novel Heartsong was printed and widely recognized as excellent, even though it was the story she had been told to throw away! As Jesus instructed, you must cast your net in the right waters.
Each individual can look inward for a unique dream and like competitors on Stan Lee’s Who Wants to be a Super Hero? all life’s sojourners carry much beneath the surface. Fulfilling one’s calling is the journey to undertake without delay, despite the looming risks.
Debbie Macomber writes about taking those risks, while the hands of God push away the worst of the storms around us so that we may pass through. The instruction of her latest affirmation is to knit together the abundant life that we deserve and create a close-knit community as God guides the needles.
Armchair Interviews says: Anyone with a dream–or someone who wants to find one–must hear Knit Together.
