Just Jane is the story of Jane Austen, the author of still famous books such as Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility.

Moser digs into Austen’s life and brings to the forefront the various influences on her life that allowed her to write such incredible stories. In this book you are introduced to her ever faithful and supportive sister Cassandra upon whom the character of Jane in Pride and Prejudice is based. Her mother is a busybody who loves to control everyone and her father is a dear who encourages her writing.

Moser, drawing on real life events in Austen’s life, diaries and other sources, chronicles Austen’s life as she grows and matures not only in her writing but also in her life.

This is my first time reading Moser and I was not that keen on reading a biography. But I was pleasantly surprised to note that even though it chronicles somebody’s life, it is written in novel form and is quite captivating. Indeed Moser using her unique writing skills accomplished what she had set out to do: she proved that Austen’s life was not dull and boring as Austen’s nephew had claimed.

This is a book I would recommend everybody read!

Armchair Interviews agrees.
