In Intent to Sell, mystery author Jeffrey Marks offers other authors practical, ingenious advice on how to market the genre novel affordably and effectively.
The book covers all major topics of book marketing, from getting blurbs from famous authors and requesting pre-publication reviews, to writing successful press kits, organizing book tours and signings, standing out at conferences, working with publicists, to designing your own website, joining lists and online groups, creating your own newsletter and placing ads, among others.
At the end of the book there's an appendix with all the general resources an author should be familiar with, such as: review publications, newswire services, distribution networks, bookstore chains, airport bookstores, clubs and catalogues, lists servers, media directories, and organizations.
Besides being useful, Intent to Sell is also an enjoyable read. Marks' writing style is straight-forward and to the point, his prose engaging.
Armchair Interviews says: While this book may be too simple for experienced marketers, it is the perfect reference for first-time authors who are new to book marketing, as it offers a clear, broad view of the business without getting into too much detail.
