Review by Dana Anderson
My mom gave me the book He's Just Not That Into You this Christmas. Maybe she's tired of hearing me complain about men. But not as tired as I am of complaining.
The two authors were writers on Sex in the City. Greg in particular was always being asked by women, "You're a guy, aren't you? What does it mean when a man does…?"
This book is a no-excuse response to the letters of many women. At times I laughed out loud at the letters, because frankly I didn't see myself. However, when I read one and found myself tearing up, I knew it had hit too close to home. I knew the woman who had written that letter—I was her!
We women are too often willing to compromise ourselves and our beliefs for men and this books hits you smack in the face with that truth.
If a woman friend treated me the way some men have, I would have ended the relationship. But with men, we seem to tolerate their behavior and get suckered in to their agenda. You instinctively know something is wrong, you just don't know what it is. But we always end up excusing their behavior to ourselves and others.
I think every woman should read the book, even if she has to ask a more "experienced woman" to translate some of it. Then she would know that many of the man/woman relationship problems in life are not all her fault…he's just not THAT into her. The book's advice is good for any age; even single women in their 50s that I know could learn a thing or two.
The authors don't make excuses for men, and don't want women to either. They say that if a man tells you he's a jerk, believe it and run. This book is a reality check, and I'm glad my mom gave it to me. It's time to stop making excuses and tolerating men who are "just not that into us."
