Elinor Mackey is in her laundry room when she finds out about her husband's affair. In fact she is always in the laundry room these days. She finds comfort in the routine and it doesn't hurt that she can complete this simple task. If only she could get pregnant. Two boys, that's all she asks.
Ted Mackey didn't mean for the affair to happen. He was just trying to increase his sperm count. But the optimism of his personal trainer is addictive. Finally he can do something right. Unfortunately it led to something wrong.
Torn between doing the right thing and the things that feel right, the two stumble through their grief in vastly different ways. Though neither questions their love for the other, can they ever find happiness together again?
Lolly Winston perfectly captures, in gut-wrenching, poignant style, the frustrations and grief of infertility. Though I can't compliment the characters on their choices, the story captured me and wouldn't let go. This book left me torn. There was an aching void of hope. No hope for a baby, no hope for their marriage. I got the feeling that there was hope for the future and I sincerely wished the characters well as I turned the last page. Without hope, what do we have?
Armchair Interviews says: An unbelievably realistic insight into infertility and the havoc it can wreak.
