What would you do for $370,000? Tom and Anna Reed learn just how far they would go when they find their tenant dead in his apartment and that amount of money hidden in his kitchen. After several failed attempts at in-vitro fertilization, they are deep in debt.
What harm could they do a dead man by keeping the money?
What they don’t know is how their renter got that money. He stole it from some very bad people and left his partners hanging. And they are all looking to get it back.
There is also the detective sent to investigate the death who smells something more to the story. When he gets the identification of the dead man and checks on his known associates, he believes the man was part of a recent high-profile crime, and that the Reeds know more than they are telling.
I read a good portion of this book with one eye closed. Sakey brings us two ordinary people driven by greed to make choices they might not have made in other circumstances. Sakey makes us feel the tension, the greed, and the hate. Although I found myself yelling at the protagonists, I understand what drove them to make decisions that I didn’t necessarily agree with.
Had I been in the same situation, what choices would I have made?
Armchair Interviews says: A thriller by this prolific writer is based on conscience and integrity.
