In Hollywood, everyone is associated to each other by six degrees of separation. For amateur sleuth, Tess Camillo, this becomes a definite asset after she stumbles upon the crucified body of local rock legend, Cody Crowne. Through her persistence and unrelenting curiosity, Tess discovers who murdered Cody. However she must prove it before a ruthless punisher tries to silence her. How she proves who committed this heinous crime is filled with dead ends and some very surprising clues.
By the end of the last page I was sad to say goodbye to Tess and her friends: Lana, her former lover and president of the Cody Crowne Fan Club; Detective Kari Dixon of the San Diego Police Department’ and Nova Zhenkarove, assistant to the largest music producer in town. Together they help Tess find evidence toward understanding why Cody was murdered.
Throughout Fool On The Hill, Morgan Hunt weaves breast cancer survival and counterculture humor in this smart and sassy murder mystery. Just as Morgan is a survivor, so is Tess. There are poignant moments when Tess candidly shares her experience of the surgery and the possibility of recurrence. Her decision to embrace life with wit and vigor has led her on a path full of adventure and intrigue.
Ms. Hunt spent 25 years in the Navy at the Brunswick, Maine and San Diego, California bases serving as an Educational Services Rep. In 2001, she was diagnosed with advanced lobular invasive carcinoma (a form of breast cancer) and has been cancer free since. Her belief, that good story telling is in demand, has directed her to write compelling mysteries that encompass the struggle between good and evil.
I really enjoyed this book, so much so, that I caught myself laughing out loud quite a few times. This is definitely one to recommend to open-minded straight women who appreciate well-written murder mysteries. Honestly, I am going to get her first book, Sticky Fingers and patiently wait for her next book, Blinded by the Light.
Armchair Interviews says: Excellent storytelling and strong characters make for a 5-star read.
