Psychotherapist Brian Hanson and FBI agent Louise Parker live in Portland, Oregon and are friends who are beginning to dance around the ‘inevitable’ relationship question.
Parker is leading an early morning raid on a Neo-Nazi compound. But everything goes wrong when the leader of the community receives a telephone calling warning of the impending assault by the authorities. Several members of the assault team are killed and Parker’s world falls apart.
It’s learned (through fingerprints) that a white supremacist leader and wanted man, Andrew Biel, was in the compound prior to the raid. He escaped and is bent on revenge. Parker is stalked by an unknown person or persons and now her personal and professional world is turned upside down as her personal property is stolen, charges are made on her credit card, and her cat is murdered.
There is no one for Parker to turn to for help but Brian Hanson. Will they be able to find out who is behind the terror before they or those they love lose their lives?
I’ve enjoyed previous Schorr novels and liked this one. However, I didn’t find it quite as compelling as others I’ve read. Perhaps it was because it has such a dark and depressing feel. Also, I didn’t connect with Louise and Brian and thus found I didn’t care much about them. They were quite two-dimensional.
Armchair Interviews says: A good book, not a great book.
