Warren begins her Christian chick lit with a great quote by a wise Bible teacher, "Sin will always take you farther than you mean to go and keep you longer than you mean to stay." That is the bedrock of this book.
Charmayne Ellis is everything most people would like to be: attractive, intelligent, kind-hearted, and a Christian with a good job. But everyone, her mother, friends, co-workers and fellow church parishioners think she needs a man to be fulfilled. She finds one, and seeks guidance from God. She wants to make sure Travis Moon is the man for her. God answers her prayers, and she has accepted what He has said-but is she really hearing Him correctly? She wonders if the signs she interprets are to marry this man, or give him the boot.
Charmayne wonders why Moon is interested her when she's overweight, and he is a fine-looking man. Ellis decides Moon is right for her, but it turns out that his ultra-good-looking exterior harbors some very ugly secrets that she finds out the hard way. She loses her job, her savings, and her self-respect. But through everything she maintains her belief in God and His ultimate plan for her.
Charmayne gets through her trying times with Travis and comes to the realization that she has a lot to offer her community. Her new job, while it pays less, is exactly up her alley. Ellis is able to put to work her Christianity and desire to help people with her new employment situation. This is a win-win situation for her.
Warren's book is a quick read and holds so many messages for all, even if you haven't been heartbroken.
Armchair Interviews says: A great book that exemplifies trust in God and discovery of some of the real blessings in life.
