This is the third in Harrison's series, and just as the first two, it doesn't disappoint. The characters are by now so well established, that we are being permitted to see more and more of what makes them tick on an emotional level. Harrison hasn't fallen into the trap of trying to convey the entire life experience of a character in a couple of chapters, rather we catch hints and glances that always engage, and tease us into wanting to know more.

Once more the lead character is facing her demon (literally), as he tries to claim payment for his testimony at the murder trial of underworld kingpin, the vampire Piscary. With Piscary safely locked away, there is now a power struggle going on in Cincinnati's underworld, and as usual Rachel, Ivy and Jenks find themselves in the middle of events.

The pace of this book, compared to the first two, has picked up slightly, and the reader is pulled along at an ever-increasing rate, and at the conclusion you are left feeling there must be more--and wanting it immediately.

The entire series to date has been fantastically original in a genre that sometimes lacks a fresh perspective, and of the three, this book the best so far. I await the next installment with childlike impatience. Armchair Interviews agrees.
