Mitchell Wyatt is a self-made millionaire who grew up in boarding schools. He's always considered himself an orphan. In truth, his birth was an embarrassing situation for his wealthy family.
William Wyatt, Mitchell's half-brother learned about Mitchell's existence and arranged a meeting. Mitchell quickly establishes a relationship with William and his family. But when William disappears, the police believe it was foul play and that Mitchell was involved. Mitchell, wanting to get away, travels to Anguilla, a tropical island, where he meets Kate Donovan.
Kate is a former social worker who is grieving the death of her father. She is in Anguilla to meet her boyfriend, Evan, who is a Chicago lawyer for the rich and famous. Work comes before play for Evan and thus Kate spends most of her time alone.
Kate and Mitchell meet and experience a time of passion. As a result of her relationship with Mitchell, Kate severs her relationship with Evan and then learns Mitchell has left the island. Mitchell has returned home to answer questions about his brother William--but Kate is mislead about his reason for leaving by Evan.
Kate and Mitchell's lives diverge for several years and they reconnect when a crime thrusts them together.
