"By making a commitment to follow Christ, we engage in...war. And make no mistake--you and your marriage are one of the battlefields."

If asked whether they would have an affair, most women would be quick to answer an emphatic, "No." However, in Desperate House Lies, author Sally Marcey quotes statistics showing that one-fourth of women have physical affairs and more than fifty percent have been involved in emotional affairs.

Seven lies that women are susceptible to are presented in this book. Each common lie is accompanied by stories of three women who made choices that put their lives in a downward spiral. The author is good to point out how we can avoid the temptations set before us and to give checks to see that we don't begin the process.

Each story has "red flag" warnings that help women watch for problems in their marriages. These red flags can be applied to the healthiest of marriages in order to protect what you have.

"Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure..."
(Heb. 13:4 NIV) Marcey has done a commendable job reminding women of the need to keep the marriage bed pure--that this is God's desire for us.

Desperate House Lies is a book I would recommend to any woman. Even if your marriage is strong and you believe you would never be tempted to an affair, this book will help you. After reading it, you will have more compassion for those who have fallen, plus you will be armed with protection for your own marriage that you might not have had before. Give it to your friends and family or at least recommend they read Marcey's book. I know I will.
