Subtitled: Confessions of a Demon-Hunting Soccer Mom
Kate Conner is the busiest mom in town. She has to balance the wife and mother ‘thing’ with returning to the world of the working mother. Think ‘Buffy’ all grown up and living in suburbia where she’s saving her town by ‘knocking off’ one demon at a time. The problem is her family doesn’t know she’s the demon killer ‘queen.’ Until now.
San Diablo, California was demon-free for many years. Kate always thought that Saint Mary’s Cathedral contributed to a demon-free area. Not so anymore. It seems there’s a new group of dangerous demons on the loose. And Kate’s daughter Allie has figured out what her mother does in her free time and wants in on the family business.
To complicate matters, Kate’s dead husband may just be occupying another man’s body and that might not be a good thing. Kate’s current husband, Stuart, is running for San Diablo County Attorney—and that’s both a good thing and a bad thing. It’s bad because it takes him away from the family a lot, and it’s good because it allows Kate to hunt her demons without Stuart knowing what is going on. Throw in a pseudo great grandfather who is a retired rogue demon hunter, and it’s the final ingredient for fun and frolic in the demon hunting world.
Kate possesses a ‘precious but deadly item’ and the demons are gathering like bees to honey. She’s got a whole lot of work ahead of her if she’s going to keep her family safe, her secret safer, and figure out what’s going on in San Diablo with the high ranking demons who are under foot. If she’s not successful, the consequences could be deadly.
Kenner’s Demon’s Are Forever is a bit darker than her previous two novels, but it is still a fun-filled romp into the life and times of a feisty demon hunter from California. I enjoy Kenner’s Kate Connor novels and hope there are more on the horizon.
Armchair Interviews says: Highly recommended.
