There is something deeply psychological and fundamental about the human species that so many of us, across all cultural and racial barriers, and throughout time, gravitate toward cults, conspiracy thinking, and secret societies.
In Arthur Goldwag’s book, Cults, Conspiracies, and Secret Societies, the author tries to explain this tendency while at the same time allow readers a glimpse at some of the more notorious members from this select set of charismatic misfits. The book is by no means an encyclopedia or a compendium, but more short, thought-provoking essays and rational dissection of the irrational and illogical subject matter under the microscope.
From Jim Jones to the Manson Family; Area 51 to The Men In Black; and Marilyn Monroe to 9/11, Goldwag explores the facts as well as the stories that persist to this day. With such a weighty topic, you’d think Cults, Conspiracies, and Secret Societies would be a dry, literary tome, but nothing could be further from the truth. The author’s delivery is engaging and entertaining. The amount of research done in this book is astounding.
Hats off to author Goldwag for an incredibly insightful, thoroughly enjoyable look at society’s shadow.
Armchair Interviews agrees this is a 5-star read.
