City Girl Philosophy is the perfect blend of practical and lighthearted advice. Ranging in topics from career, money and men, reading these pages brought a smile to my face. City Girl Philosophy can be defined as having great style, excellent friends and the perfect attitude. Her manners are impeccable: she knows the rules of borrowing clothes from friends, is mindful of how she treats others and is never rude. Not based on geography, you can be a City Girl as long as you have the right outlook on life.
Want to increase your City Girl quotient? Here are some guidelines:
• Debating what to wear? “The perfect size is the one you’re wearing whenever you’re happy, regardless of the number on the tag.” (p.13)
• There are different ways to gauge job satisfaction. While money is always nice, find out what else motivates you.
• Trying to find a prince in a sea of frogs? “If you need a man, a jar lid must be stuck. If you want a man, he’s very lucky. Remind him often.” (p.67).
I think this is a perfect gift for someone who’s just graduated college but I think this would also make a wonderful gift for your friends. Knutson has a great sense of humor. Her writing is upbeat and focuses on how fabulous you already are. She reminds us to enjoy life.
I also really enjoyed the artwork. The colors used for headers, borders and motifs match the accompanying artwork. Most of the figures have matching shoes, hats, and purses. They are also doing fun things: eating ice cream, meeting friends for an al fresco lunch, going on vacations, etc. The figures don’t have faces so it’s easy to imagine yourself in the pictures.
Knutson has also written and illustrated Shoe-ology. I really enjoyed City Girl Philosophy. and I’m going to read Shoe-ology next!
