“Tracey Bateman is one of the most talented new storytellers in Christian fiction,” states the endorsement by Karen Kingsbury on the cover of Bateman’s new book, Catch a Rising Star. I couldn’t agree more. I first fell in love with Tracey’s vibrant, chick-lit voice in Leave it to Claire. Now, with Catch a Rising Star, first in her new Drama Queens series, that love has been rekindled all over again.

How does a girl go from being a daytime soap star to dressing up in a rabbit suit? Tabby Brockman finds out when her character is killed off the popular daytime drama, Legacy of Life. How was Tabby to know the charming man she spent the evening chatting with at the cast Christmas party was head writer Julie Foster’s husband? He didn’t even have a wedding ring on! But Julie got her revenge—so Tabby is surprised and thrilled when, two years later, she’s offered her old role back—convinced it must be God’s doing.

However, having her old job back doesn’t make life as perfect as Tabby thought. Julie is still hostile, her character’s twins have grown from babies to rowdy five-year-olds, and she wonders if she will be able to hold onto her Christian faith in the midst of all the chaos. When Tabby meets the twins’ handsome and attentive stage dad, David, things get even more complicated. Will Tabby fall into old habits and put her Christian faith aside? Or can she be a light in an industry that desperately needs it?

I can’t think of anyone who creates romantic anticipation between characters better than Tracey Bateman. By the time Tabby and David have their first kiss—let’s just say it was well worth the wait. Her characters are convincing and authentic, the humor throughout is hilarious. I did not want to put this book down. Tabby’s roommates, Laini and Dancy, were the perfect complement and I can’t wait to read their romantic escapades in upcoming Drama Queens books.

Armchair Interviews says: If you’re looking for an entertaining and romantic read, Catch a Rising Star will not disappoint.
