A colorful picture book meant to educate the four-to-seven-year-old, Calendar Friends uses rhyme to instill understanding of the calendar concept: how many days each month contains, the order of the months and what typically represents each month by way of activities or holidays.

Children will enjoy the colorful, whimsical, and seasonally decorated long-necks which illustrate the monthly rhyme. Those parents who enjoy a rhyming read-aloud may be frustrated by the incongruent cadence. However, if each page is taken alone, and not read based on the previous page's meter, the beat can be found. The rhymes convey the number of days in each month and a representative activity for each month, but only one actually contains the name of the month. So to adequately teach, one must be careful to state the month before each month's rhyme.

Armchair Interviews says: Calendar Friends is an admirable attempt to teach a difficult concept to the read-aloud crowd
