It's fall in Algonquin Bay and there has been an unusual number of suicides. Detective John Cardinal responds to a police call about another apparent suicide of a woman who jumped from the roof of an apartment building. When he arrives, he recognizes the body of his wife, Catherine, who had long suffered bi-polar disorder.

Cardinal is overcome with grief and a thought niggles at him: Catherine did not commit suicide. He believes, with all his heart, that she was murdered. A number of anonymous notes about Catherine's death contribute to his belief that she was murdered. His erratic behavior draws the unwanted attention from the 'powers' on the police force, and he is forced to investigate on his own.

Cardinal's partner, Lisa Delorme, is investigating an Internet pornography case that appears to have a local connection. Lisa is determined to find the young girl before she suffers more sexual abuse.

Cardinal and Delorme's cases intersect and a malicious killer is hunted. He must be found before the body count rises.

Giles Blunt's By the Time You Read This is a multi-layered exciting drama that reels in the reader and won't let go. The characters are complex, the storyline sizzles and when it ends, you want more of Cardinal, Delorme and Algonquin Bay.

Armchair Interviews says: A scintillating must-read.
