Kidnappings and murders are happening in Virginia Beach. Newspaper reporter Catherine O’Rourke starts to get unsettling dreams with very fine details about these crimes. Worried and hoping to help the investigation, she shares her dreams with a detective working the case.
However, this knowledge gained through her dreams about the events and the crime, is knowledge that nobody knows about–and lands her in trouble. She becomes the main suspect. And not only that, evidence garnered from the crime scene is also pointing to her. Is there any way to prove her innocence, especially since she herself doubts it? She hires top-notch lawyer Quinn Newburg, hoping that he can work a miracle for her even if it is By Reason of Insanity. Will he succeed?
Randy Singer, who is known for his well-written legal thrillers, continues his successful storytelling as he delves into the issues of dreams and personality disorders. He also provides an in-depth view of the insanity plea. I could not put this book down. The twists and turns were so unexpected and very exciting. I did not particularly like the way that the novel ended (which I am not going to give away), but it provides a very realistic view of how the world actually functions. The writing is very well crafted and fast paced, and there was never a dull moment. Time and time again I was astonished at the incidents that should be unbelievable–but in the story seem very credible and real.
Singer also weaves Christian themes of love and faith into the novel. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a fascinating, quick and thought-provoking read!
Armchair Interviews agrees.
