I’ve sufficiently recovered, loosely translated that means I’m not doubled over and light-headed from all the laughing I did while reading Bobbie Faye Sumrall’s most recent adventure. I can now speak without gulping air, but I must focus on curtailing said laughter when I think about Bobbie Faye’s (kinda, sorta, not exactly) Family Jewels. What’s the hilarity about? Toni McGee Causey’s wild, wacky (quirky doesn’t do it justice) wonderful world of Bobbie Faye, that’s what.
Bobbie Faye Sumrall doesn’t look for high-action adventures. She just wakes up and (sorta) welcomes them. It’s a good thing she’s got a sense of humor or the landscape would be littered with the bodies of her personal version of payback.
It’s been a while since Bobbie Faye saved her brother Roy-and a normal person might think all is well. Not so, for Bobbie Faye. She’s always on the lookout for the proverbial dropping of the other shoe.
That shoe just dropped. Her diva cousin Francesca confronts Bobbie Faye at work (interfering in the elderly Maimee’s attempt at buying a gun to maybe off her gambling, no-good husband) and announces that Bobbie Faye HAS to help her find some diamonds that her mother waltzed off with. Oh, no, Bobbie’s life just turned a corner and the bullets start flying. Everyone is after Bobbie Faye who is after the gems. And then life becomes complicated with her ex-boyfriend, the hot and sexy undercover FBI agent, her estranged daddy and the ever-increasing and violent attempts on her life. Oh, dear, the silo episode almost stopped my heart.
Janet Evanovich move over. Toni McGee Causey just gave us Bobbie Faye and we’re loving her. The only criticism I have is that there are so many characters (and they are all beyond quirky) that it was difficult keeping up with them.
Read this book, but first, stop on by your local bookstore and start with Bobbie Faye’s Very (very, very, very) Bad Day. Then hang on as you’re in for the granddaddy of all roller coaster rides.
