First-time author Jen Lancaster's Bitter Is the New Black is a must-read for true "chick lit" junkies.
Lancaster's humorous memoir details her rapid decline from an extravagant lifestyle--defined by expensive restaurants, designer clothes, and spa treatments--to giving up her Cadillac, losing her luxury apartment, and selling her overpriced accessories on ebay. Why? To have money to buy groceries when she unexpectedly loses her high-paying job and remains unemployed over a span of two years.
This thirty-something author is a self-proclaimed "egomaniacal, self-centered, smart-ass," but love her or hate her, Lancaster's witty style makes for an enjoyable read that's difficult to put down.
