Subtitled: A Guide for Stay-at-Home Moms Who Want to Return to Work

This book is exactly as the title suggests: a step-by-step practical guide for women who have been at-home moms for any length of time, and who want to return to the workplace. The co-authors are both Harvard graduates who desire to help women relaunch themselves into their careers.

The chapters include assessing career options, updating professional and job search skills, interview preparation, networking, and marketing yourself, among others. Additionally, there are helpful appendices with practical and useful information.

While it does seem that the focus of the book is primarily for those women who began in the professional business or medical field and wish to continue in that same field, I think the book can be a good study for women who seek other career tracks as well. As a former teacher, I did find some of the notes about teaching to be a bit outdated. (For instance, many of the teachers I knew did not get “summers off,” as the authors state. Most either acquired summer jobs, taught summer school, or went to school themselves). Nevertheless, the positives in this book far outweigh the negatives.

Armchair Interviews says: Recommended for the at-home mom who is ready to move out into the world of outside-the-home employment.
