Jean Hubbard and her British husband Mark have been married for more than twenty years. They are both career people. She is a health columnist and Mark is an advertising executive. They have moved from London to live by the Indian Ocean in the Tropical Islands.
Jean comes across a love letter addressed to Mark. Instead of confronting Mark about the letter, Jean decides to correspond with this woman whose name is Giovana. Jean pretends to be Mark and exchanges emails with Giovana. Most of the email are explicit with photos attached. Jean learns that sometimes even spouses truly do not know each other that well–and that is goes the same with your own parents.
The author also wrote the book Bury Me Standing: The Gypsies and their Journey. It was published in twenty countries and became an international bestseller. The author lives in London but was born and raised in New York City.
I felt this book was not worth my reading time. It is hard to decipher who is who in the book, and one minute a character is there, and the next they are gone. Some words are not even the English language, or if they were, I had never heard them before. It was hard to understand unless you are into the really big uncommon words.
I could not relate to even one character in the book, and I really thought there was also a lot of jumping around in the book. I am typically a fast reader, but it took me two weeks to read this book because I was determined to finish it, no matter how much I struggled. I cannot recommend it.
Armchair Interview agrees.
