After Andreas’ Darkhaven was destroyed, everyone believed him dead. Now he’s back, more powerful than ever, and bent on revenge. He has thus far taken out all of Roth’s minions and is now going after Roth himself. He has decided that nothing will stand in his way, but does that include the love of his life?
Claire is Roth’s mate. There’s no particular love lost between them, but they’ve bonded and so are essential to each other’s lives. When she finds Andreas alive and out to get Roth, will she take the side of her former lover or her mate? Will she survive long enough to choose a side?
This is the sixth book in the Midnight Breed series, and the first that I have read. The book is written so that the background is immediately available and you don’t feel as if you’ve just picked up a book in the middle of the series. However, I found I didn’t have much interest in the characters. They’re well-written and entertaining, but I didn’t feel as if I knew them and really cared what was happening to them. After doing some research I found that you fall in love with the characters much earlier in the series, so I strongly suggest you start with book one and work your way up.
The Midnight Breed series strongly reminds me of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. Though I find Ward’s writing more invigorating, anyone who enjoys it will definitely enjoy this. The writing is dark and rich. Instead of a fluffy romance you find yourself embedded in thrill and intrigue.
The one thing that really made this book stand out to me involved Andreas. I’ve read a lot of vampire stories, and thought nearly everything had been done. I was wrong. Andreas is not only a vampire, he’s also a pyromancer. He can shoot flames from his body and create a heat shield. It was a lovely twist to the same old boring vampire.
Armchair Interviews says: #6 in the series. Read them all to get the most enjoyment.
