Gretchen Hanover didn’t heal well from her broken wedding plans. After two years of eating quart after quart of ice cream, she discovers that she’s gained weight. And she isn’t impressed. When she notices that her enthusiastic Lab puppy has outgrown her tiny apartment, Gretchen decides it’s time for a change.
Since Gretchen’s favorite television show is “Flipper” where people buy houses, renovate them, then sell them, hopefully for a profit. So, Gretchen decides she can do this. She buys a house without her contractor father’s approval, and then is horrified when her dad virtually condemns the place, and yet the sale has already gone through.
With the house in much worse shape than Gretchen thought and her father suggests that she hire contractor Noah Campbell. But Noah carries a lot of baggage, and Gretchen isn’t sure she wants to deal with it. Will Gretchen discover that renovating the heart takes as much work as renovating a house?
I loved A Mile in My Flip-Flops. It was a fun, whimsical read that held my attention from page one and didn’t let go until the end. I literally couldn’t put this book down. The faith message is solid and expertly woven in, the characters are very well-developed, and the dialog is very well done.
Gretchen is a very real character. I enjoyed getting to know her through the pages of this book, and I hoped that her plans for renovation would work out, even as it appeared to flop. Don’t miss A Mile in My Flip-Flops.
Armchair Interviews says: This is an excellent read.
