Betty Spider is working her way through Arizona and stops to rest in the shade of a cactus when suddenly she hears a noise that frightens her. She works up the courage and finds out it is a rattlesnake! After introducing themselves, Betty finds out Jake is looking for his friend, the cactus wren (who happens to be the state bird).
Betty decides to help Jake find his friend and so they set out on an adventure in the Yuma Desert. Using their individual strengths and talents, they find Jake’s friend and discover they have become great friends in the process.
After reading this book to my children, we have decided it is a keeper on our bookshelf! The illustrations are wonderful and the story is captivating and filled with many facts about Arizona. And as a homeschooling family, this book is a great addition to studying about the states while adding a bit of fun in the process. If only there were more books like this one about all the individual states!
Armchair Interviews agrees.
