Subtitled: Handmade Gifts & Heartfelt Stories
Christmas is my favorite holiday. It’s the only time of the year where I long for the cold, snowy Minnesota days. Christmas represents family, friends, a crackling fire, good food, heart-warming traditions and gifts for everyone.
A Family Christmas is 176 pages filled with the best of the spirit of Christmas. It’s broken into three chapters: Christmas Magic, Christmas Traditions and Christmas Blessings.
You’ll peruse A Family Christmas for hours, deciding what you will bake, what you will make, and what you will take (for house gifts). Some of my favorites in this Christmas treasure are:
—The Christmas Star cookies are a nostalgia ‘thing’ for me. My grandmother baked these cookies, and they melted in my mouth—and when grandma got a thank you, I got a hug.
—The Spiced Tea is simply delicious and will fill the house with a festive aroma.
—I’m presently making Jolly Holly Santa, which is a wooden tote box. I could keep it for myself as it can hold all my Christmas tags, cards, ribbons and such. But I know it would make a great gift. Put a bag of divinity (page 160) in it and you’ll really make a hit at those holiday parties.
—I’ve already made the Happy Holidays Christmas cards (page 33) and they are beautiful and very easy if you have the proper materials.
I enjoyed reading the little stories scattered throughout the book and several triggered my own memories of long-ago Christmases. Adopt a Soldier (page 69) is wonderful and is something we can do for our soldiers even today.
The recipes are scrumptious. I love the Apple-Cranberry Baked French Toast, the Round Christmas Pudding, the Creamy Winter Fruit Salad, and all the cookies and other treats. They will make your mouth water.
And if you’re into making things, you’ll love the crocheted candy canes, the bead-covered glass ornament, and the bedazzling gift tags.
Armchair Interviews says: The perfect gift for you or for someone else. A Family Christmas is a keeper.
