Mary Jo Wyse is pregnant and unmarried. It’s nearly Christmas and she hasn’t heard from the child’s father, David Rhodes. Mary Jo’s brothers are threatening to force David to marry her–and maybe worse. It’s “the worse” that Mary Jo is concerned about. But then, she doesn’t really believe David intended to do right by her and the baby, and she’s not sure she wants him any longer.

To avoid any unpleasantness between her brothers and David, Mary Jo heads to Cedar Cove where David told her he’d be spending Christmas. He isn’t there and Mary Jo isn’t surprised.

When Mary Jo experiences some physical complaints, she’s ordered by medical personnel to rest. That means she’s stranded in Cedar Cove over Christmas.

Unfortunately there’s no room for her in the inn. Grace Harding brings Mary Jo to her home where she puts up Mary Jo in a room over their stable where they are currently housing the animals for the Cedar Cove Nativity pageant.

Later Christmas Eve night, Mary Jo goes into labor. Mack, a young paramedic, helps her just as the three Wyse men arrive (the brothers—get it?). All of Cedar Cove celebrate the birth of Noel (the three brothers were sure it was a boy). But it’s Mack who is celebrating new faith, hope and love.

Debbie Macomber is the queen of inspirational novels. And that’s a good thing. When I pick up one of her books I know the reward will be a good story that will bring a smile to my face, my heart will be filled with joy, she’ll make me think, give me hope and when the book is finished, I will simply mourn the end of the relationship.

In these troubled days, Macomber is just what the doctor ordered. Her talent is not that she’s a good writer (she is) but it’s her ability to convey in her stories all those little unnamable things that make a writer the queen of her craft. And she has all of those unnamable things.

Armchair Interviews says: It’s just not Christmas without a Debbie Macomber story and A Cedar Cove Christmas is no exception.
