Have you ever watched a Hollywood movie and thought: That scene would be perfect in such and such class? If you have, you’re a dyed-in-the-wool teacher or trainer. You eat, drink, and sleep learning! For most of us movies are a distraction, a welcome respite from our pressure-packed world. But if you look—there’s a lot of content in there—if you look and you know how to get permission.

Pluth starts by sharing exactly how to get a license to show film clips in training—whether you’re for profit or nonprofit. In this litigious society, that’s important! Then she proceeds to provide 101 clips or scenes from readily available Hollywood movies that make learning points about customer service, leadership, conflict, problem solving, decision-making and more.

For each clip there’s a synopsis of the film that is very helpful for those who haven’t seen it—or for those of us with short memories! Then there’s the topic and learning points. She also provides time code start and stop. She includes the dialogue you’ll hear in case your counter is not the same as hers. She concludes by giving a number of questions that it can be used to both prepare people for watching the clip, and for debriefing the clip afterwards.

To maximize the value, many of the films she’s used have three or four useful clips. She also indicates when you need to double-check for language before using—and she errs on the side of being conservative—better safe than sorry. This book provides you with all you need to give participants a welcome change of pace, and yet with highly relevant learning points.
