Shelly Rachanow’s New Book Is Geared to Women

Shelly’s second book is also written to encourage women to become involved in changing their personal, family, community and global world.

Rachanow is trained as an attorney, but at the sudden death of a young friend, she realized that being an attorney didn’t make her happy—and because no one know how many days we have, we might as well do what makes us happy. A writer from young on, she captures women’s lives and what we get done very well. Conari Press is her publisher.

Listen as Shelly inspires us to do more—but first we must take care of ourselves so we can take care of others. INSPIRING is the one word that sums up her writing.

Audio Interview: Diane Keyes, author of SPIRIT OF THE SNOWPEOPLE

Author Diane Keyes has written a children’s story about snowpeople that bring joy to the villagers, their children and those who come to see the amazing snowpeople. However, this simple winter story has another layer: that of loss and memory of those who have died. “The spirit of the snowpeople is present in the melting snow as it runs to the lake. It lives in the water and in the mist as it rises to the clouds, to return again as showers in spring, dewdrops in summer, frost in fall, and snowflakes in winter. These are the seasons of life, and we celebrate them all. This is the magic of the snowpeople.”

The stunning illustrations by Helen Stevens are incredibily detailed and could keep a child busy finding things-and take the rest of us back to a kinder, gentler day.

The Coach’s Son is the story of how the Mark O’Bern, 8-year-old son (and other family members) are all affected by the ups and downs of the life of Chester O’Bern, a 1960’s professional coach: the loving and hating fans, the joys and pains of winning and losing-and the moves to new town, new jobs. Mark and two older brothers spend a lot of time with their overprotective mother as Dad is always gone. As author Hickey says: Most professional athletes end their career when they are losing. Young O’Bern believes he can influence the outcome of games, and we get to enjoy his efforts and his humor used to deal with life of A Coach’s Son. Diane Raab, author of Regina’s Closet: Finding My Grandmother’s Secret Journal

Diana Raab has captured the essence of her grandmother Regina’s life—as Regina told it in retrospect after she arrived in America. Regina and her family lived in Poland when WWI broke out. The Reinharz family was parents, two older brothers, Regina and younger sister Beronia. The grandmother’s journal was found by Diana’s mother and given to her in the 1990s.

Diana was shocked to read what her dear grandmother had gone through as a child of war. Mother died, brothers left, separated from their sick father, Beronia and Regina were left to fend for themselves as adolescents. A powerful and driven young girl, Regina knew if they were going to survive, she would have to make it happen. Although a story about war, the story has such power of survival, of second effort at every turn. In addition to the journal, Raab intersperses some geography and history to give us more perspective. WW1 started in 1914, lasted four years, and 9 million lives were lost. Most war stories are not told from a child’s point of view—but don’t let that scare you off. THIS IS A PAGE-TURNER!

Additionally, Diana Raab teaches others how to write their own memoir, and believes everyone “has a story to tell,” if just encouraged.

Interview with Tad Waddington, author of Lasting Contribution

Tad Waddington wrote this book to provide general guidelines and ideas of what you need to do to make this world a better place for others. The framework is from Aristotle’s Four Causes that he has updated to 1) material cause of what a thing is made, 2) How something is made, 3) What a thing is called the plan, and 4) Why a thing is. Based on both Eastern and Western thinking, the big questions are: How can I contribute to the world? How do I make that contribution last? Am I making the best contribution to the purpose of this community/church/business/activity, etc.? This easy-read book is for everyone, because everyone can make some contribution to this world. Waddington’s thought-provoking ideas include: Doers think before acting; thinkers take action, and this equals remarkable results. Ideal for anyone questioning your role on this earth.

Tara Taylor Quinn, author of Behind Closed Doors

Listen as Tara Taylor Quinn discusses her newest book Behind Closed Doors, the second in a trilogy about white supremacy. The first book (still available) is In Plain Sight and is told from the perspective of an attorney. Behind Closed Doors is from the victim’s perspective, and in the third one, due out in 2008, the issue is presented from a judge’s perspective. Behind Closed Doors is a powerful and compelling novel of the insidious nature of terror delivered by white supremacists who fuel their hatred with violence and more hatred. A mixed-race couple falls victims to their violence and almost loses everything, but chooses to fight back and seek justice.

Tara Taylor Quinn tells how she got the idea for this trilogy. It’s a fascinating story, and we know you’ll be mesmerized by it. She is the author of over forty novels.

Paul Elwork, author of The Tea House

Elwork, a first-time author, spins a wonderful tale of coming of age of 13-year-old twins. His story is based loosely on a true story of two women in the 19th century who could make noises with their bones (ghost-knocking)–who traveled the country as “curiosities.” Ghosts that Emily, the girl twin, may or may not see and talk to–and those annoying “skeltons” in the family’s closet make for wonderful reading. Dead father, depressed mother, self-sufficient “privileged” kids–Elwork is a good storyteller with attention to detail and characters that you actually care about, especially their secrets–that they will stay in your mind long after the last page. Listen while Paul tells about his ghost-knocking inspiration, and all about his writing life.

Mark Giminez, author of Color of Law

Mark Giminez is a solo practice lawyer who left a large firm so he could have the flexibility to write thrillers-for which his reading public can be thrilled! His first book, Color of Law, was a New York Times bestseller (in two years has sold 420,000 worldwide) all about corruption in legal practices. The second, The Abduction, will not disappoint, as it is a multi-layered thriller about every parent’s worst fear: child abduction. The book is populated with great characters like Ben Brice, a Vietnam vet and grandfather of Gracie, the abducted girl, a strong mother, and a resourceful Gracie.
